Did You Know? DRX9000 Spinal Decompression is painless, drug-free and non-surgical. Published scientific studies report effectiveness at 78% to 88.9%. Medications / Injections are only effective at masking the pain – they do not address the cause of the pain. All medications are also associated with some risk. Physical therapy is a safe alternative to medication, but has similar limitations. Muscle strengthening treatments could make disc problems even worse. Chiropractic is often beneficial for mild to moderate bulged discs and herniated discs, but is not recommended for severe cases Of all options surgery is the most dangerous, the most expensive and also has the lowest success rate Surgery has the longest total recovery time and is the most painful treatment option |

How Does Disc Decompression Compare to Other Treatments? 6. Is Spinal Decompression a Form of Traction? 7. How Does Spinal Decompression Work? What Are Spinal Discs?Spinal bones called vertebrae are separated by cartilage pads called intervertebral (inter = “between”, vertebral = “bones of the spine”) discs. How Do Spinal Discs Become Damaged?Over time gravity, joint dysfunction and accumulated trauma can cause the discs to flatten and degenerate. This compression prevents oxygen and nutrients from entering the disc. This hampers healing and trauma recovery. This ongoing starvation forces the once-tough outer layers of the disc to become soft allowing the center of the disc to bulge outward. Significant spinal disc damage can become a tear. This is called a Disc Herniation. The inner gelatinous material can also leak out which is called a disc sequestration or rupture. The “jelly center” of the disc can dry out over time which is often referred to as Degenerative Disc Disease. All disc injuries can eventually pinch on the nerves leaving the spine (“Pinched Nerve”) which can create symptoms such as numbness, tingling, sharp pain or burning down the arms or legs. Sharp pain from the back that “shootis” down the legs is often called Sciatica. The only treatment that can reverse this degenerative process is Spinal Disc Decompression using the DRX9000. What Symptoms Do Disc Bulges and Disc Herniations Cause? Most forms of disc injury can eventually pinch on the nerves exiting the spine (“Pinched Nerve”) which can create numbness, tingling, sharp pain or burning down the arms or legs. Pain originating from the back and “shooting” down the legs is often referred to as Sciatica. What Conditions Can Spinal Decompression Help? You can learn more about these conditions on our Conditions Treated page. These links will also take you directly to the specific conditions:
How Does Disc Decompression Compare to Other Treatments? There are several options a patient may consider, including:
To learn more please read our Comparing Options page. Is Spinal Decompression a Form of Traction?Defination: Spinal DecompressionIn relation to the spine, decompression is defined as “A procedure carried out to relieve pressure on the spinal discs, spinal cord or nerve roots.” Definition: TractionIn relation to the spine, traction is defined as “The application of tension or pulling to the spine.” Other methods of applying traction may include Spinal Traction devices, Gravity Boots, SpineMed Traction, Dynamic Traction System (Triton DTS), Accu-Spina, Chattanooga Traction, or Lordex. Comparing the TwoIn other words, Spinal Decompression relieves pressure whereas Traction is just the act of tensioning or pulling. Prior, failed attempts to decrease intradiscal pressure relied heavily on high-force, straight-line pulling motions that did not target specific spinal levels. These High-force, linear pulling motions are effective at "tractioning" by definition (“tension or pulling”). However, “pulling” the bones of the spine apart (i.e., traction) does little more than force the spinal muscles to spasm around the injury site. Unfortunately, these muscular contractions counteract any DECOMPRESSION that may have been created by the traction and can actually make the situation worse by increasing pressure on the disc and spinal cord. In other words, traction can create COMPRESSION, which is the opposite of beneficial DECOMPRESSION. This can make the situation worse! This explains the less-than-optimum success rates of outdated traction methods. Several traction treatments exist including gravity boots, spinal traction tables, over-the-door neck traction, Lordex traction and SpineMed traction. All of these treatment methods provide traction. However, none of them have been demonstrated scientifically to perform Decompression which is used to “relieve pressure on the spinal discs, spinal cord or nerve roots.” Big difference.
