| Did You Know? Disc injuries of the spine may be diagnosed as “bulged”, “herniated” or “ruptured”. A Bulging Disc refers to a spinal disc that has become misshapen over time. Often this is caused by chronic poor posture or with repetitive straining seen with bending, lifting or twisting. Disc Herniations occur when the tough outer layers of the spinal disc tear partially. If the Herniated Disc worsens to the point that the gelatinous center of the disc escapes it is called a Disc Rupture. | Bulging Discs / Disc BulgesThe Discs of the Spine:: An Overview
The bones of the spine are separated by tough cartilage pads called intervertebral discs (inter “between”; vertebral “bones of the spine”). Healthy discs are flexible (like a wet sponge) allowing a wide range of actions including bending and twisting motions. Unhealthy discs are stiff and hard (similar to a dry sponge) and more prone to injuries such as Disc Bulges. Over time gravity, spinal joint dysfunction and cumulative trauma cause the spinal discs to flatten, compress and degenerate. This constant compression prevents the much-needed nutrients and oxygen from entering the disc. Ongoing starvation of the disc causes the once-tough outer layers of the disc to soften. This allows the disc to become injured or diseased. Bulging Disc damage can occur at any level of the spine. However, the discs of the neck (cervical spine) and low back (lumbar spine) are the most commonly involved.
Disease of the spinal discs can take several forms. Significant disc injury can lead to a Bulging Disc (Disc Bulge), become a tear called a Disc Herniation (Herniated Disc) or the inner gelatinous material of the disc can leak out in the case of a Ruptured Disc (Disc Sequestration). The “jelly-like center” of the disc can also dry out over time which is called Degenerative Disc Disease. All disc injuries can eventually pinch the nerves exiting the spine (“Pinched Nerve”) which can create symptoms such as numbness, tingling, burning or sharp pain into the arms or legs. Sharp pain that originates in the back and “shoots” down the legs is often referred to as Sciatica. DRX-9000 Spinal Decompression is the most effective treatment currently available to reverse Disc Bulges (Bulging Discs). Bulging Disc / Disc Bulge :: DefinitionA Bulging Disc (Disc Bulge) occurs when the tough outer shell of the spinal disc weakens and stretches. This allows the “jelly-like center” of the disc to “bulge” outward toward the nerves of the spine. A Disc Bulge (Bulging Disc) is considered the first step toward a more serious problem known as a Herniated Disc (Disc Herniation). A Herniated Disc is similar to a Disc Bulge except that the outer layers of the spinal disc actually weaken to the point that they tear. Bulging Disc / Disc Bulge:: SymptomsThe majority of symptoms related to a Bulging Disc or Disc Bulge are caused by irritation of spinal nerves. These nerves pass through small holes called foramen. The discs are located next to these nerve pathways. The bulging of the disc material caused by a Bulging Disc can impinge or "pinch" the nerves creating a variety of painful and debilitating symptoms.
Disc Bulge of the Low Back:: Lumbar Spine Bulging DiscDisc Bulges in the low back can cause symptoms such as low back pain or numbness, tingling, burning pain, sharp pain or weakness in the legs or feet. Sharp pain down the back of the legs is often called Sciatica. Disc Bulge of the Neck:: Cervical Spine Bulging DiscBulging Discs in the neck can cause neck pain, numbness, tingling, burning pain, sharp pain or weakness in the arms or hands. Disc Bulge Treatment:: DRX9000 Spinal Disc DecompressionNon-Surgical DRX9000 Spinal Decompression provides relief to those suffering with severe neck and low back pain. This is accomplished by gently reducing the pressure within discs of the spine. The vertebrae of the spine are slowly and methodically separated using the DRX9000 Spinal Decompression Unit. As the bones are separated pressure is slowly reduced within the disc until a vacuum is formed. This vacuum “sucks” the jelly center of the disc back into the disc which reduces the size of the Disc Bulge. As the size of the Bulging Disc decreases irritation of the spinal nerves is eliminated. This drastically reduces pain and disability. This “sucking” vacuum also pulls much-needed nutrients and oxygen into the Bulging Discs allowing the healing to begin. DRX9000 Spinal Decompression is computer controlled to provide gentle, painless reduction of spinal Disc Bulges. The advanced technology utilized by the DRX9000 allows the Spinal Decompression Unit slowly and cycle between brief moments of pulling and relaxing called oscillation. This reduces the prevalence of protective muscle spasm that outdated traction techniques demonstrated such poor results. The DRX9000 also incorporates another advanced method called angulated elongation. Angulated elongation allows the DRX9000 to target specific discs of the spine (for example: L5/S1 at the base of the spine). This allows the treatment to use less distractive force (separating multiple levels with high force) and more finesse (using less force while focusing on a single spinal segment) to rehabilitate individual spinal discs.
